Is Manny Ramirez getting closer to signing with the SF Giants?

The Denver post is reporting the Giants have offer M. Ramirez a four year contract. Could it be true or is just a rumor

I am big giants fan and i was really upset the Giants havent offer ramirez a contract.

But i am hoping this story is true and ramirez would be in a giants uniform next year.

What do you guys think about this report?

There's a rumor making the rounds from Dennis O'Donnell of KPIX-TV of San Francisco. O'Donnell says the Giants have offered Manny Ramirez a four-year deal. Reasons to treat the report with skepticism:

O'Donnell says it's a fourth-year club option, so it was inaccurate to call it a four-year offer.

We haven't heard anything about this from the Giants beat writers or national reporters, who have a better track record than television stations. Henry Schulman covers the Giants for the San Francisco Chronicle, and he says the team "could consider Ramirez under very specific financial conditions." He was probably not referring to a three or four-year offer.

O'Donnell was told by a team spokeman, "It's not happening." Scott Boras' publicist "had no knowledge of any negotiations with the Giants," according to O'Donnell.

    so i doubt it

PLEASE do NOT trust the DENVER Post for the SAN FRANCISCO Giants

The SF Chronicle sais the Giants are not focusing on Free Agents, more on trades. I think the Giants are just in it to drive the price up for the Dodgers.

EDIT: Also, if Johny Damon went to the YANKEES, then Manny Could go to the Giants without breaking a sweat

Frizzer and Mitch...if you both believe Manny is 38 you can't even start to answer.

I don't know where Manny's going to play, but I think he's gonna get somewhat less than he wants. A 4 year deal is a risk, but the Giants are capable to offer that. But, you know what, it's not a bad idea...it takes him away from LA...but keeping Manny happy is another problem.

I like it. But the report might be wrong.

I think this is a case of "Boras being Boras"...

Every report I've seen on it adds the note that the Giants have denied any kind of offer in place. I think it's also interesting that the report comes the day after Boras went crawling back to the Dodgers to re-start talks after every other team called his bluff.

The Giants M.O. of late has been to bring in aging veterans, so I imagine they could make him an offer....I doubt, however, there's any truth to the part about 4-years...I think that's clearly a ploy by Boras to get the Dodgers to add a guaranteed third year to their offer.

If SF makes Manny an offer, there's no reason for them to go that far over what the Dodgers have already put out there.

I am more inclined to believe he'll stay with the Dodgers. Boras and Colletti had begun talking again and the Dodgers will go for Manny especially if they can unload Jones, which they're trying to do.

At 38 years of age Manny is probably looking to play for a contender, and even with Manny the Giants will probably not contend. Everything we hear has the Giants in the mix but I would be surprised to see him sign with the Giants.

That's the only team who is now serious against Manny. I mean come on, Dunn, Abrea, Burrell, and many more OF who are cheaper than him.
