We can't win. We conserve and federal revenues drop. So now an increase is being considered. How about eliminating some of the government waste? Thats a novel idea...Your comments please

Gasoline tax pays to build and maintain roads. Increased mileage in newer cars has reduced the amount of excise tax being paid while the costs of building and maintaining roads has gone up. You should think of the gas tax you pay at the pump as the toll you pay for using the roads. This will work out to about 1 1/2 cents per mile. If you want good roads to drive on, you are going to have to pay for them. If you want to drive on crappy roads that are going to get even worse, then root for no gas tax increase.
Government waste is not a line item in the budget. Your idea of waste may be something I think is a very worthwhile public expenditure. My waste may be something you think is a very worthwhile public expenditure. Which one is really waste?
As part of the big picture, I don't think you will find much that most of us will agree is wasteful. Any significant real waste has been squeezed out long ago.

The best use for the increase in gas tax is to develop a better fuel. I have a project in the works since 1980, an offspring would be to get off gasolive.

I pay for water I don't use. My city signed up for a minimum volume of water. We had a drought, so everyone cut back. This dipped below the minimum, so we pay for water we dont' get or use.
