My 7-month old struggles mightily with diaper changes. What to do?

My 7-month old son is healthy, happy, eating and pooping up a storm. He's been crawling for about two weeks and he is STRONG! Changing a diaper is a struggle. He does everything he can to flip over, crawl away, pull himself up or to the edge of the table. Meanwhile, I'm struggling with two kicking legs and a diaper full of stinky. Advice, please?

I have to give my daughter something weird to play with- something I wouldn't normally let her have, like a wooden spoon, a diaper, the lid off of a plastic container (kitchen utinsels are popular in my house). We have a whisk on the changing table for that purpose! She loves exploring new objects, so it works for her. Briefly, anyway. Half the time I admit defeat and the diaper is on all wonky anyway. lol

Our 10 month old daughter is just like that. Its like the world is far too exciting of a place to sit still that long, and they fight with everything they can to go join the party they're convinced they're missing.... We've found that if we give her a smaller toy (like a rattle or something), she will be content with it in her hands (and mouth) just long enough to get the diaper changed. Its usually tossed right when I am putting her pants back on, but at least I had a few moments of peace there to get the job done.

LOL, I know exactly how you feel, I have a 7 1/2 month old myself. I usually have my husband help hold him down for my while I try to get his diaper changed. It is a 2 person job. It is like once they learn all of these new tricks then there is no holding them down. Sometimes I hand him a toy to try and distract him while I am changing him. This seems to work if I am alone with no extra pair of hands. Good luck!

Yep had this problem and as much as i hated it i started to pop the bottom of my daughters feet to get her attention to look at me and say firmly "stop" "relax" or "no" i also always gave my daughter something to hold like the clean diaper or the butt paste it always made it easier to change, you just have to learn to be quick! It doesnt get any easier and my daughter is 13 months but at least now she will lay and let me change her.

    wow.

im not exactly sure how to keep a squirmy baby from moving.

    lol.

but the changing table we bought has like a seat belt like thing in the middle. just a strap and snap-buckle. it usually keeps him from moving about. but if you cant get another table....

just try to distract him with a toy or something.

keep him focused on something else long enough for you to do all the dirty work.

    haha.

    good luck.

all the best to your family.

    we have the same problem!!

or son is a little tank and diaper changes can be the worst!

    (especially poo!)

we give him a toy when we change him..

or keep a few objects around..(like the coveted cell phone!)

or the remote to give him if there aren't the two of us to tag team the kid.

we had the same problem - fun eh? give him a toy - something he really likes to keep his attention, or something of yours that he can't hurt works realllly well... He'll stay still for about 2 minutes so work quick! Good luck

just give your son something to do while you change him.
