What is the max height someone could survive a fall from?
Say a perfectly healthy 20 year old was fixing a roof or something and fell, landing squarely on his head (very tense, so don't say "relaxed makes him more likely to survive).
How high would the building have to be (in feet) for the fall to kill him if he falls like this?
This isn't for a paper or anything, I was just watching "The Dark Knight" and wondering if that gang boss would've died if dropped on his head.
20-30 ft is around the size of a two story house, right?
Yup, that guy'd have been dead then. Poor Eric Roberts.

On average, you have a 50% chance of surviving a fall of between 20 and 30 feet. Landing on your head reduces this probability by quite a bit; landing flat on your back with arms and legs spread increases it.
But you asked for the record. There are several military aircrew who survived falls of thousands of meters and survived. The record is a JAT stewardess who survived a fall of 33,000 feet.

I guess it depends entirely on how lucky you are - a simple fall off of a bicycle has been fatal many times, while we often read about survivors who fall from tremendous heights.
As Clint Eastward might ask, was Eric Roberts feeling lucky?
