This is serious and not meant for haters. Christians - would you sponsor a child in a 3rd world country.......?

if you KNEW that 95% of all sponsorship money taken in actually goes to the child? There is an organization that really does that. Check it out.

    I would and I do.

My wife and I support an orphanage in Cambodia. The pastor lives in a little shack with a tin roof on the orphanage property with his wife and new baby, and they eat the same food and live the same lifestyle as the kids.

I cannot abide the mentality that no child should be sponsored because of a few well-publicized rip-off artists.

"In this world of darkness so we must shine. You in your small corner, and I in mine."

Those kids are hungry, and alone, and have no hope other than the hope that is facilitated by a working-for nothing pastor and his wife, and a few modest-income supporters.

    Email for details, everyone.

It is comforting to know that there is an organization that is legitimate. However, before you give money to an organization that says it is helping children in a 3rd world country, I would suggest you look around in your own back yard. We have millions of children right here in the USA who live in third world country conditions. I live in SC and am involved in an organization that addresses homelessness and poverty in our area. There is a community located within a prosperous mid-sized city that actually has no running water or electricity. There are about 100 people who live there in boxes, old camper tops, small houses with holes in the floors, 15 people in one 2 bedroom house. We have been appealing to the media, local, state and national legislators, celebrities, you name it, to do what it takes to provide these people with the basic necessities of life that most of us take for granted. Everyone agrees it is a travesty, everyone says something needs to be done, but, unfortunately, there is very little evidence that anybody really cares. The only significant progress has been through the persistence and fund raising efforts of our local group of caring individuals. I cannot believe a community like this can exist in this day and time, in this country.

So, my point is, you can find children who need food and clothing, running water, lights to study by and a warm place to sleep right here in our own country.

I would invite you to check out the website for our organization that is helping the community I am speaking of. It is www.aplaceforhope.net

God Bless you for wanting to help others.

Yes, I want to but my husband doesn't think we have the money at this time. I figure it would all come back to us in "good karma" for lack of a better word. It's only $25 a month, after all. I haven't sponsored a child, but we have sent money to them. I already know where I'd sponsor the child:

    www.amigosdejesus.org

    amigos@amigosdejesus.org

It's a specific orphanage in Honduras that takes in street children.

I know Americans who have sponsored a child in a third world country. They have given the children hope for a better future.

I would if I had the money BUT there are lots of kids here in my home town and all the towns around me that are hungry and need cloths too. And if you look around where you live, you will find some too.

Charity starts at home, lets take care of our own first, then let the blessings flow out of our country.

    That is my opinion.

Many NON christians support children in other countries, as well this country! Since our good christian president George Bush has ruined our economy! There are a great many more children in this country going hungry!

So just exactly who is YOUR idea, of a hater???

From what I quite have heard, a pecentage (under 50%) is going to the youngsters. i substitute into advised tha they deliver you a image of the new child and a letter each now & then telling you the form of the new child (from the new child). To be truthful there is doubt that the letters are written via the new child.

I sponsor several children through different organizations.

The money does not go to individual children, that causes jealousy.

The money is used to help their community & facilitators.
