Have you taken your children on a cruise?

We are taking our nine year old. We are worried about sea sickness, and wonder what you gave your child for it? How much of a problem did you have with sea sickness? Was there anything else that was a problem with having your child on a cruise?

    Hi,

I just got back from a cruise with a lot of easily sea-sickened people, including those aged 14. We all took chewable Bonine, which did the trick for us, did not make us drowsy, and let us enjoy the cruise.

No problems at all with bringing children.

Don't have children but most of the bigger ships have very little movement. You can hardly feel the ship, especially if you are in calmer waters like the Caribbean. If you are prone to motion sickness, stay as low in the ship as possible. The higher you are on the ship, the more motion you will feel.

Most people take Dramamine to stave off motion sickness but I am not sure if that is suitable for children under 12. Check the box. A non medical way that some people use are the motion sickness wristbands. These use pressure points to prevent motion sickness.

From others I have talked to, children love cruises. Most cruiselines have clubs with activities and areas especially for kids. They usually have a few levels so that teenagers aren't in with the little ones. Check your cruiseline's site for info. I don't have any children but i did take my 8 year old niece on a carnival cruise last year and they have so much for kids to do..it was a great experience...they have small pools and kids clubs, its a safe and fun experience that your child will never forget! She did not get sea sick at all...and they do offer medicine on the ship just in case your child does get sea sick.

Yes. They didn't have problems with seasickness. As someone else said, you don't feel much movement on the big ships unless there are very high seas. If you think they may need it, you can use generics - either meclazine or chlorphenhydramine [benadryl]. These make some people sleepy and meclazine made me feel like a zombie - it's supposed to be "non-drowsy". I wasn't drowsy, but I might as well have been asleep!

i have been on 4 cruises and going on one in 3 months, i have never gotten sick but i'm also curious as to how i'll handle it now as i haven't been on one since i was 16...my mom sometimes had a response to it but i think children are less likely to feel it unless they have a predisposition to motion anyway.

as for children on cruises period, make sure you're not taking them on a royal caribbean. while they do have lots of things for children to do, it happens to be a nicer line thats more affordable for young adults therefore its known as a party line. carnival and princess are two awesome lines and of course disney is the best for children. hope this helped!
