Different things work for different people.
Don't lay in bed tossing and turning and getting pissed off that you can't sleep. Try getting up and reading for 30 mins and try again. Or try some warm milk and a warm bath before bed.
Sometimes getting your body into a strict routine will help. Go to bed at the same time every night and get up at the same time every day (no matter what) and gradually your body should adjust.
Otherwise, try deep breathing exercises while you are laying in bed, look up different meditation type exercises to clear your mind. Even if it doesn't send you to sleep, this might help with feeling so frustrated about not sleeping because your body will be getting some rest.
Good luck.

How about lying in bed and watching a boring tv show. Exercising in the late afternoon or early evening also helps out since your going to be physically tired. Warm milk also helps.
