should CNG or LNG be considered an alternative fuel?
We like to classify natural gas as an alternative only because we believe it is plentiful and not an imported energy controlled by others. But that in reality it is no different both chemically and politically than oil. Today, natural gas is being withheld from Europe and people are suffering. In the US we import 20% of our natural gas from countries that could block it's import, including Muslim states that control oil. A huge amount of gas passes through hands of the largest Killing machine in North America, the drug cartels in Mexico, could they hold our gas hostage instead of cops?

No, its just another form of limited fossil fuel that world should carefully utilize & manage until we've evolved/ progressed to more sustainable sources of critical energy.

i both agree with your message and disagree.
the departure is, gas is cleaner to burn than oil-derivatives, so we'd see an immediate cleaning-up of the air, esp. in major cities, if all vehicles just happened to be running CNG.
even if it's chemically similar to oil, natural gas is not made from oil itself, while it is, though not exclusively, a by-product of oil production.
a large part of the supply for gas is based on the demand. greater demand would result in greater supply, unlike reasonable sources of oil these days.
one of the great things about gas is it can be made from relatively unsophisticated processes; we don't have to wait forever for nature. you can do it on a farm. try that with petroleum.
your concerns, however, are not negated / duly noted.

Any fuel is an alternative to the other, so the phrase "alternative fuel" is redundant. Why not just call it a fuel?
