How serious is the rumor that Boston is trying to trade for Hanley Ramirez?

I have seen this mentioned twice on TV but have not seen anything about it on Rotoworld

I can't see the Marlins getting rid of him yet. He does not make really big money for another year of so.

In 2008 Hanley Ramirez ranked 537th in MLB at $439k and will be slightly above that number in 2009. The day is coming when Hanley will be another in a long list of multi million dollar players, but not this season. It looks like the Marlins will get their new ballpark soon and I am sure the Marlins would love to have Hanley as the franchise player going into the new park. The problem is that Hanley will probably be worth more than the $21 million payroll the Marlins currently have for their whole team and they won't be able to afford him. For now he is a Marlin and the Red Sox will have to stand in line with every other team that would love to have him. When the Red Sox traded Hanley to the Marlins for Josh Beckett it seemed like a good deal at the time, didn't it?

There were reports that Hanley was their first target after losing out on Tex, but that was late December and talks didn't seem to go anywhere.

The Sox have some nice prospects to offer, but Hanley has the "star power" the Marlins need right now.

Hanley's big money won't come until 2011 or 2012....by chance, the Marlins' lease with Dolphin Stadium expires in 2010. Everyone knows the Marlins want a new stadium and they want taxpayers to fund the whole thing.

The fans aren't going to feel too warm & fuzzy about paying higher taxes so that a team in "rebuilding mode" gets a fancy new home. If they have a legit super-star in-house about to test free-agency, however, that could change everything.

Wow it must be nice to have enough time on your hands to waste like that...How bout you get a life Blair.

Anyways, I am from Mass and a die hard Sox fan. I haven't heard anything about this. Although it would be great for the Sox, i dont think the Sox have enough youg talent that they can trade the Marlins for Hanley. I will say though that Hanley should be in a sox uniform RIGHT NOW!! But thats the life of a team and city that always wants to win. Trade away great prospects to get players they need now. It did pay off for the Sox to get Beckett and Lowell in the deal because they won another World Series but for the long run it wasnt great..Lowell is getting old and Beckett seems to be on the downfall.. Ramirez is only in his early 20's and is the best SS in the game right now.Could you imagine the Sox line-up with Pedroia,Youk, Papi and Manny(if he was still there) and Hanley there... WOW can u say offensive massacre.. But how would the pitching be??

The marlins would be insane to trade there best player whom they are paying virtually nothing for. I cant see this trade happening!

He was their prospect originally. I'm not sure how serious those talks are. I think he would cost more than the Sox are willing to give up. Maybe if they had gotten Texiera it would have gone down.
