Downgrading From Verizon BlackBerry?
I currently have a monthly plan with Verizon with a BlackBerry Curve. I began this plan in Sept, so I know I can't upgrade, but the 29.99 a month for the internet/data use is getting to be a bit much on top of the regular plan costs! I don't want to get rid of the phone, but maybe just switch to a regular cell for awhile. Can I just buy one of the cheap prepaids like you see in Wal-Mart, or would I be better off getting one from Ebay? I don't want any unlocked phone (they seem shady), but would rather have a previously used Verizon phone. Which would be the best route to take? And can I still get an insurance plan on a used phone?
Yeah I know that the BlackBerry has a minimum data/internet plan-I am in charge of my outrageously expensive bill, my mommy and daddy don't pay my bills for me. And downgrading means getting a cheap crap phone to use for awhile, not getting a cheaper plan. *rolls eyes*

Well I would have you come see me to buy a phone that someone has turned in. The short answer is no, and maybe. No that you can't buy a prepaid phone from Walmart and activate it on your post paid plan, it won't work. You COULD try ebay and craigslist, but check the vilidity of the phone and the seller. If the phone was reported lost or stolen, it's blacklisted, and you can't activate it, and you could be stuck with a phone after spending a small bundle. I would ask someone you know that has verizon if they have an old phone they can let you have or buy from them. Don't forget the charger! Also, you could try a few stores in your area, ones with a technician specifically. They may have some refurbs to offer. If you have any other questions email me d.pelkey@yahoo.com

As you may know already, all blackberry's require a minimum data plan and downgrading is not an option. The best route would be (like you said) to get a used (legit) phone from ebay and use it as a regular phone. I'm not sure what the grace period (in months/years) is for putting insurance on a used phone. However, it is possible.

You would be able to get a used phone from somewhere and use that on your line. But I'm not really sure if a prepaid phone can be activated to be used with a monthly plan. If you have insurace on your Curve already and found another phone from somewhere else e.g. Craislist and activated that onto your account the phone should still have insurance on it but you should check just in case. Hoped it helped
