How to restore programs after going through windows recovery?
Windows had trouble starting I tried to start using F11
The machine went through a recovery procedure.
Files were backed up and put in folders I can find.
The desk top is like I bought the computer 4 years ago
I think the programs are saved some how but I don't know how to reinstate what I can without getting out the original disks for the programs I use.
I plan to buy an external hard drive and copy the files I can find before attempting changes
The computer is a gateway
The programs are not available if I go to the start menue

If they're not in C/Windows/Programs then they're prob'ly lost. If they're there you should have shortcuts. If all you are missing is desktop shortcuts go to Start, All Programs and right click on the prog you want, select Make Shortcut then highlight the new shrotcut and drag and drop onto your Desktop.
