How can I 'delete' this 'used' space from my Ipod Nano?

I had an accident with my ipod and lost all of my songs, videos, etc. I have began reloading it with songs, but the ipod screen on itunes still shows 1.41 gigs being used by "other". There is no material to be found, but I would like to have this space back. Help!?!
