Why the heck did the Indians get Carl Pavano?

In the past 4 years (I know he's been injured) he's made 26 starts with a 9-8 record and an era of like 5.00. I trust the Indians, I'm a huge fan, I just don't understand why him? If they wanted a more experienced pitcher there were plenty out there better. John Smoltz, Pedro Martinez, Andy Pettite, etc. So why him?

It was a low risk, small investment (1.45 million I believe). If he can somehow resemble his 2004 self when he went 18-8 with a 3.00 ERA it will be the steal of the year.

As a Yankees fan I know it is painful to have had Carl Pavano all those years. The thing is though that the Indians didn't sign him to a big deal and it is kind of like a risk/reward situation. He could be the former 18- game winner he was before or the often injured starter who was a bust. The Indians may contend next year and they don't really need him with the yound pitchers they have in their system.

this is a twelve months deal. So it can't be too undesirable of a deal until Carl Pavano pitches like he did until now he signed with the Yankees. this is a low possibility/severe reward deal for the Indians. If he stinks or he's injured, then the Indians decrease him unfastened after the season.

Its a one year, low risk - high reward things. He could use this opportunity to prove himself, go 18-8 or something, in which case the Indians get a good starter for the year on the cheap, or go 3-4 and end up on the DL.

I like the signing in that theres nothing guaranteed, but theres a chance for reward here. Especially since he isnt facing AL east opponents.

are you kidding we only paid a little under 2 million a year a bargain with a nice upside i liked it no risk whatsoever..

and if the indianns are out of it and he has a good first half we can unload him for some minor leaguers to the highest bidder nice move for the indians i think

Pavano spent 4 years on my team and did nothing but take money and cry when got a little sharp pain. He sat and did nothing. I dont care he went as long as he flew off the Yankee roster.

  • As a Yankee fan, who cares as long as he is gone.

As a baseball fan, small investment and if all else fails he could be a set up man or long middle reliever.

I think its a good move and very low risk.

It would be nice to see him win 16 games, and beat the Yankees in the ALCS.

im yankees fan and i think that they git him because he is a good young pitcher. he is been hurt recently but he is a good pitcher to help Cliff Lee

They obviously believe he has something left in the tank. Low risk/High payoff potential.
