Colleges with equine majors and good academic reputation?

I want to go to a fairly well known college with a good academic reputation that also has equine majors. Can anyone recommend any?

    West Texas A&M University

    Lake Erie College

These are the four that I am looking into...also try the college match maker on collegeboard.com, you can pick your major and get a list of all of the schools that offer it in the country

Just to comment on the lists a bit...Bismark State College in ND does not have an equine program...it is best known as a good nursing college. Dickinson State University, ND has an ok equine program...they are big in the research aspects. North Dakota State University, ND has a fairly knew, but good equine program that is still expanding...it even includes a 400 horse-stall barn, heated, that rests on land that is shared with the North Dakota Racing Commission-- the horse racetrack. It is a land grant college that is very agriculturally based. University of Minnesota, MN has a not too bad equine program as well.

Also, Mitchell, South Dakota does not have an equine program...SDSU (South Dakota State University), however, does.

Personally I love Colorado State University. Dr David Denniston the head of the Equine program, has taken the Judging team to the Championship several years in a row! They also have Rodeo club, performance, I can't name them all here- They cover everything from health to breeding to training. You can learn from one of the top Farriers in the country, and the Vet teaching hospital is on site so you get a lot of info there too!

I am going to University of Maine, Orono next year. they have a huge barn complex with off the track Standardbred horses that students rehabilitate to ride. they have animal sciences with a minor in equine studies. there is also the barn co-op where you are assigned a horse each semester. hopefully i can do everything freshman year :)

It is a really good college, best known for being Stephen King's college. however, most americans dont know what Maine is, lol. we are not part of Canada. oh, and it's really cheap as far as colleges go.

    Source(s): accepted there.

Colorado State, Lake Erie, Cazanovia. Cornell has an Animal Science program with horse classes. Why don't you do a search on collegeboard.com

Someone said Averett but keep in mind it has like 1,000 undergrads haha and is VERY unknown. uhmm Virginia Tech has a good program but you can't keep your horse at the schools riding team stable, but there are others nearby campus. Ohio University has one too--plus the school is awesome. My sister goes there and the campus is great--it is the cutest, most fun college town that i have visited.

    Colorado State University. http://www.cvmbs.colostate.edu/

    Davis (California State). http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/

Those are the two I'm looking at right now. I'm going for veterinary medicine however, no other equine major.
