Las vegas strip hotel?
Hi, my guy and I are going to be spending a week in Vegas the week of March 2nd-9th and are looking for a hotel on the Strip. We want something decent, but not fancy, as we aren't rich by any means and would rather spend that money gambling ;) We are looking to spend no more than $500 for the week including taxes for the room. I am wondering what hotel anyone can reccommend from experience? Friendly service, great food/casino, nice rooms, etc. Thanks!

my wife and I like Imperial Palace, It's not pricy, just about center strip, and not too crowded.
Sure it's not the nicest by any means, but it is not the worst either. saves you money, and actually has a free car show you can go to as well a legends show which is a bunch of singer imposters doing a show. The buffett is no good, but there is a little burger joint which is good, or just go to any of the other near by casinos. Harrahs and flamingop are right next door and ceasars is right across the street. Also another plus is the tram has a stop that is located right behind imperial so it makes it fast and easy to get on and off and where you want to go quickly.

From experience the cheapest you are going to find on the strip and the best central location is going the be the Imperial Palace. It is decent for the price and the location on the strip is within walking distance of the bigger more costly hotel/casinos that have the best night life, good restaurants/bars and things to do during the day. If you don't mind being down at the end of the strip the Stratosphere is affordable and the rooms are decent for the price but it is all the way at the end of the strip and you can walk but it is pretty far so you would probably want to take a cab to the other hotel/casinos. Also Tropicana is another hotel/casino that is the is less expensive and the rooms are decent, the location isn't bad it is right by MGM-Excalibur-New York New York. Just look on Vegas.com to compare the prices and then if you see a price you like you can go directly to the website for that hotel/casino and book. There are also hotel/casinos off the strip that have free shuttles to and from the strip, like the Orleans and there are some others if you can't find the price you want for a hotel on the strip. Have fun where ever you stay, Vegas is a lot of fun anywhere you stay.

I stayed at the El Cortez up near Fremont St when I went there last. It was cheap but not that bad. It had a decent casino downstairs also with a restaurant or two. The Fremont St Experience (binions, 4 queens, etc) was only about a 2 min walk. Going to the main strip you could just hop on the bus for a dollar or so. Id likely stay here again considering when I went to Vegas hardly slept at all so there is no reason to get an extravagant hotel.
Also, anything down near the bellagio, ceasers and all of that will run you more than $500 for the weekend, let alone the week.

The cheapest time for a hotel on the strip is Sunday through Thursday (excluding holidays or large conventions). December is the cheapest month by far (though many shows are dark then and a lot of pools are closed). July and August are slow times too because of the heat. Stratosphere is a step down from the Flamingo, not so much for the hotel room but for it's location, which is not within walking distance of any attraction (other than the Stratosphere Tower, of course). On the Strip, include Bally's, Harrah's, Bill's Gambling Hall in your search in the Central Strip. Further south, you could also include the Monte Carlo, Excalibur, Luxor and the Tropicana for nice hotels with good prices (though make sure you factor in any "resort fees" charged by the hotel).

At that time in March... These should be the most affordable "Strip" Hotels
Excalibur http://www.excalibur.com/
Sahara http://www.saharavegas.com/home
Tropicana http://www.tropicanalv.com/
Imperial Palace http://www.imperialpalace.com/
Flamingo http://www.flamingolasvegas.com/
Hooters http://www.hooterscasinohotel.com/
Stratosphere http://www.stratospherehotel.com/
Circus Circus http://www.circuscircus.com/
I would stay away from Circus Circus and the Stratosphere even though they are bound to be the cheapest of the lot. They are not in the safest of areas and are a bit "removed from the action" on the Strip. During the day it's not too bad of an area. But at night, it gets positively creepy.
The next best rate is most likely to be Hooters. I've never stayed there, and probably never will just because of the name. And as a newlywed, you probably won't want to stay there either. But Hooters is in a great area of the strip and it's safe at all hours in that part of the Strip. Also Hooters, does have a reputation of being one of the best values in that part of the Strip. Also in the same area is Excalibur which was just renovated. Also a free tram and moving walkways connect it easily to The Luxor, and Mandalay Bay. Excalibur is also a relatively easy walk to a lot of attractions on the Strip, and there is a monorail station at nearby MGM Grand.
My favourite hotel is The Luxor, but at that time, in March it should be out of your budget, especially at the weekend, rates should be about $115-130, but do check... I could be wrong. If I am wrong, and rates are in your range, then do consider The Luxor. It's got so much to see and do within the pyramid. The cheapest I've paid was $59/mid-week, last year, for The Luxor. http://www.luxor.com/
For rates, try Vegas.com or the hotel websites.
It's worth noting that unlike other destinations, where you tend to get better rates by booking far in advance... Nearly of all of Vegas offers better rates closer to your trip day. But don't wait too long or you may end up not getting what you hoped for. Also by booking with the hotel directly... Most will give you the lower rate, if the rate for your stay goes down, but you have to ask for it when you re-confirm your reservation, it's not automatic, nor is it available to you after you re-confirm.

I would highly recommend the New York New York. I stayed there the last time I was there and had a wonderful time. The rooms are very nice and just a ton of stuff to do in the place. It is not a real pricey place and the service was amazing. The casino is very large and gorgous. And I won quite a bit of money in there so I feel the place has good luck.

You will not find a Strip hotel for that money! Sorry and maybe nowhere you would want to stay
Check out www.lasvegasnow.com
If you stay at one of the close local casinos near the Strip like Orleans, Gold Coast or South Point you will find better prices.

I highly recommend the Hard Rock Hotel. Travelocity has a lot of deals right now for Las Vegas. Check them out here:
