I KNOW THAT KRISTEN READ THE FIRST AND SECOND BUT I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE REST.
I AM PRETTY SURE IT WAS NOT COMPULSORY BUT IF YOU ARE A GOOD ACTOR THEN YOU PROBABLY WOULD WAT TO.

I think most of the read it. But not all, some probably had enough background info from the script.
But I am almost positive Robert Pattinson read the first one, it and I assume Kirsten Stewart too..

No. Kristen Stewart said on her interview that she knew nothing about the book. Only the main ideas and some small details. But probably most of them did.

I'm not either.. they look good but I don't like that kinda genre of books.. lol
but it was like (and I'm very sry to say type this because usually i don't type or say any kind of this language) but I took 3 friends to the mall last Friday and we walked into hot topic and all i heard were screams.. no joke.. my friends were SCREAMING because they saw twilight stuff... so I was pretty much in (here it is.. and i'm VERY SRY!) hell! it was horrible!!!
but anyway... sry i didn't answer the question....

haha I think this is hilarious: the actors didn't even know about the books, much less care before making the movie. But yes, they had to read them eventually.

they probably read the first one since they shot the movie but they would read the second one when they are about to shot the other movie so that the like scenes can be fresh in their mind

No, it wasn't required, but like most ppl *including me* once they read the first one, they read all the rest immediatley afterwards...its captivating....=D They prob. only read twilight tho b/c they only were working on the twilight book at the time....

No they didn't have to, but most of them did after reading some of the script. All of them liked it!
