I have depression & eat when stressed, sad or bored. I tried seeing a therapist but hated it what should I do?

I've gained 15 pounds in about the last 8 months and my BMI is 27 (too high) I'm almost 17 years old and haven't grown in 3 years. Plus after I binge eat I feel SO guilty and worthless because of my depression. It's a vicious circle. I'm on medication that works well enough for me to function, do well in school etc and I know I should see a psychologist but they just make me feel uncomfortable. What ELSE can I do????

I have gone through this same problem and I know the frustration. You didn't mention the medication you take, but you may want to check the side effects. A lot of medications for depression have weight gain as a side effect. Not all do however. If yours does, ask your doctor about taking something different. It may help to talk to a therapist. The trick is to find someone that you feel comfortable with and like. I'll change therapists if I don't feel like our personalities are a good fit. A BMI of 27 is not too bad. 25 is normal. While it's hard, try to keep yourself busy. Getting out of the house works for me. If I sit in front of the TV, I eat. Don't give up. It may be rough now, but it does get better.

A lot of psychiatric medications can cause weight gain. So that might be something that you look into, because there are other medications that can help counter act that. Two don't stop until you find a therapist that you're comfortable with. People change medical doctors When they aren't comfortable why not change therapist if you don't feel comfortable with the one that you're using. You have to be comfortable with your therapist if you're going to form a relationship with them that will help you to deal with what you have to, Find a therapist that you're comfortable with and than make a concerted effort to form a relationship with them. If will be one of the best things that you can do for your self and your life in the long run.
