  • What's your advice for a depressed college student who wants to move back home?

I attend Vassar College. I am doing well (mostly B's, some B-'s, and an A or two) but I am not happy. I have a few friends but everybody here drinks and smokes and I don't do that so I don't like the weekends here. Plus I am really academically confused because I know that I want to be an elementary schools teacher but I can't major in Education because they don't offer it and because NY State requires a BA in something other than Education. I live in NJ and want to go back home because the local college, Montclair State University, offers a Family and Child Studies major and they even have an entire institute devoted Children's Philosophy which is my field of interest. It would cost about $40,000 less a semester but I still can't convince my parents to let me transfer because money isn't an issue. Everyone else in my family went to an Ivy League school. Everyone thinks I'm crazy because Vassar is such a good school and because I was happy at first. But I've been depressed for a while now and I'm not getting that much out of being here. I feel less sure about becoming a teacher, not because there is anything else that I would rather do (there isn't) but because I just don't even feel motivated to contribute to society anymore. I just want to crawl up into a ball and hide under the covers! Another thing is that I have a job working with children here and I really like it but I had a job at home working with children and I would probably be able to help out there again, at least subbing at first. I miss my friend from work and a lot of the other members of that community (it's the same school I went to).

Oh yeah and I don't have many other transfer option because I don't want to go somewhere further from home and I'm only about 1 hour and 45 minutes away now.

  • What should I order if I need to eat really politely?

I am going out to lunch with an important person at a college I am applying to. I have never been on a date or out to eat with anyone that was "judging" me. I know not to order anything outrageous or weird. But I'm really nervous because my parents just informed me that i chew with my mouth open and I didn't even know it! I will do my best to be conscious and avoid it. But if I forget or can't help it what can i order that will do the least damage? Oh yeah and I don't eat meat.

  • How do I get myself to stop feeling guilty if I didn't do anything wrong? and did I do something wrong?

I took the SAT today and I had a case of "wandering eyes" First I was just looking over at somebody because they were clacking on their calculator doing the math while we were on writing which confused me. Then I saw the bubbles on her paper and got worried I was cheating subconsciously and ended up looking around more to be sure that I couldn't see anything! I didn't see any answers I mean I saw the filled in bubbles but couldn't even tell what section they were for or what letter was filled in! I feel like I did really well though and I'm worried that if I do better than last time I am not going to be able to feel proud of my hard work because I will feel guilty of my lack of self control. I have NEVER cheated before and I don't think this really is it but I have a tendency to blame myself. Please offer any opinions or advice!

  • I have depression & eat when stressed, sad or bored. I tried seeing a therapist but hated it what should I do?

I've gained 15 pounds in about the last 8 months and my BMI is 27 (too high) I'm almost 17 years old and haven't grown in 3 years. Plus after I binge eat I feel SO guilty and worthless because of my depression. It's a vicious circle. I'm on medication that works well enough for me to function, do well in school etc and I know I should see a psychologist but they just make me feel uncomfortable. What ELSE can I do????

  • I'm depressed but therapists make me anxious and uncomfortable.?

    I'm 16.

I take medicine for depression but am still sad. It's not like overly serious or anything violent or dangerous. I am just kind of tired of life in general. I want to be an elementary school teacher and work with children and I just hate having to put up with all of school bullshit when I know what I want to do and where I want to be. I am mature for my age and don't have a lot of friends. I get good grades and am a nice person. I'm just really struggling to get through each day and I feel like I'm wasting the limited days of my life but I can't help it.

  • What are some tasty, healthy foods that are low in sodium?

My grandma is 80 and needs to cut back on sodium as well as have an overall healthy diet. However, she does have an appreciation for good food and I am looking to find dishes that she will enjoy. Preferably things that are simple to make and non-perishable or frozen.
