Is the rate at which the universe expanding constant/increasing/decreasing?

I am talking about rate of expansion not the universe itself.

Update:

Intiresting, according to articles on dark matter it is increasing.

Once I figure out how to give best answers, I will give it to "zotdirector" for answering first, but thanks to all those who answered.

It's Increasing. Dark Energy is a force or substance (they don't know) that is powering the universe's expansion and it is getting faster all the time.

the fee of advance of the universe is large-unfold because of the fact the Hubble consistent. it particularly is fee isn't huge-unfold precisely. by characterizing the particular shape of the cosmic microwave background fluctuations, astronomers have accurately desperate the easy cosmological parameters, including the Hubble consistent, to greater useful than 5%. This measurement is thoroughly self reliant of classic measurements employing Cepheid variables and different suggestions. the present consequences teach the Hubble consistent to be seventy 3.5 (km/sec)/Mpc (supply or take 3.2 (km/sec)/Mpc). Mpc is Megaparsecs.

According to the latest measurements, the universe is expanding faster and faster. This does not compute using existing models, consequently, there is "something out there" that is causing this that we are not able to detect yet. This "something" has been given the name dark matter. To do what it is doing, there must be a awful lot of it.

The current data indicates that the rate is increasing. This is a hot topic among astronomers nowadays.

Increasing. Search for 'Dark Energy', e.g., "site:edu 'dark energy'" on google

Here's a good article with not too much math: http://www.stsci.edu/~ariess/darkEnergy.htm

It's like anything else that would have force applied once. That once is supposed to have been the big bang, which threw things outward.

Now there is a constant force being applied, that of gravity.

So, it is slowing down due to gravity. The gravity is exerting a force to pull things back together. Eventually, gravity should win.

The rate at which the Universe is expanding we believe to be constant.

It is definitely not increasing but it could be decreasing as the Universe gets less and less momentum.

What do you think the Universe is expanding into? :)
