is congress out of touch with the common man?

Question

Conrad was critical of the proposed break for workers and their families. 

"Twenty bucks a week. How much of a lift is that going to give?" he said. 

I don't know about you but 20 a week is good money to me especially if i actually get it unlike most tax cuts.

Of course they are but, I don't blame them. I blame the idiot American voter who keeps putting the same guy or gal in office. There are people in congress who have been there for twenty plus years and keep recycling the same old ideas. If people want to regain their power and have fresh ideas, we must remove these politicians who have made a career sitting in Washington DC determining what is best for all of us outside the political beltway.

Yes in some ways they are. But today's Congress (and I don't just mean this particular session ) might know more of what's going on in their district because of communications being what they are. 

Personally, I've never contacted a politician about anything (except fill out some forms a congressman sends every year or so) so I don't know how much the congress responds to people. I know the offices get back to people who call or write, but I don't know how much the Congressman or Senator reads or hears himself or herself. &#92;

I'm not as cynical as I sound, but this is nothing new, I don't think.
