My Vista laptop won't turn on correctly! HELP?

Out of no where my Toshiba Windows Vista Home Premium laptop froze. The start bar at the bottom disappeared and it just froze. So I had to turn it off manually. I left it off all night and when i tried to turn it on the next day, it did TURN ON and the Toshiba screen was there then it went to this loading bar which said Microsoft Coorporation (as it usually does) but it took like 15 minutes for that sceen to go away! Then my sceen just went black, but it was still on! After that it got a little brighter and i could see my mouse but nothing was on the page. After waiting about another 15 minutes it finally went to the vista page and it said "Please Wait" with the loading bar which took an abnormal amout of time and then it just went black again and I had to restart it manually again! One time restarting it, I actually go to the sign in part and i signed it and it went to the Welcome screen (which took a long time to go) and my desktop started loading very slowley. All of my desktop icons were gone except for the Recycling Bin and it said i had internet connection but it wouldn't allow me to open up Internet Explorer and the whole thing just froze again!

I tried doing safe mode and many other things, if anyone has ANY suggestions what so ever PLEASE let me know.

by the way, i do have a virus softwear on their so i doubt it's a virus and the worst about it is that i've only had this laptop for a little over a WEEK and it's already acting up!

Please help me if you can!

Update:

EDIT!!

i finally got it to turn on all the way (athough it took a good half an hour) and it looks all old school like Windows 95 and this message popped up:

C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.

what does that mean? and what should i do?

I don't really know exactly what to tell you...I've never really had that particular problem. What I would do is take it down to your local Geek Squad location (or whatever computer repair service you prefer to use) and have them take a look at it and try to fix the problem. It'll probably be a little pricey (depending on where you take it), but, that's the only thing I can think to do in that particular situation.

    -EDIT-

I just thought of something else you could try. If you wanna try to save a little money, try defragging the harddrive. You might lose some of your media (like video clips, pics, music, etc...) but it is a cheaper alternative to try before spending all the money a repair shop would charge you...

Amanda, computers freezes all the time. whtn you did the addition details about C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofi that must have been the uhmm i dont know what it's called but it helpes your computer be faster and no virus can go on it. you need to find that system and you need to press it and follow the directions. and if it doesn't work i dont know. ill try to askk my dad. have you tried asking your parents forr helpp? and did the computer just froze then the screen is like all black? you can still use the computerr right? if you can that's good. becaus if not. and the screen is blank or black you cant turn it on anymore.

I don't know if these would work, but it just might:

    1. you can try pressing ALT and F4 at the same time

    OR

    2. Try connecting to a different network

    OR

    3. The battery's running low???

Sorry if those didn't work, but you could also check to see if your desktop is full or something...

You may see this when a memory module is loose. Try reseating the RAM.
