What is the best size bike for a 5'4" female?

I am trying to buy a mountain bike, preferably used, and I trying to figure out which size would be best. Thanks!

While no one can say exactly what your size is I can ballpark it for you. One thing is that cyclists that ride a lot of single track like smallish frames. I ride a 16.5" hard-tail and I'm 5-8. If your just riding around town, a little big will do. I've fitted many people to bikes and I'd say you'd want some where between a 15 to 16 at the most. Look at 15" if you want a nimble bike on twisty single track.

Your height gives you an idea of what size bike frame you need, but really it's your inseam that matters, not how tall you are.

But it's not even that simple. Your inseam tells you how high the top bar can be, and perhaps that's the most important thing, but how long the top bar is depends on how long other parts of you are too, and there's other things to keep in mind as well.

If you're looking to buy a bike, go into a bike shop and talk to them about it. If they're good, they'll take some measurements of you and will tell you what dimensions would work well for you. If all they do is take your height or measure your inseam, then that might be fine for a $200 bike, but if you're spending $1000+, they should look at more than that.

On MTB between 15-16, but dont't forget to check the length of your stem and sitpost height for proper fitting.

You will probably need a 16 inch frame. You can go to this web site and measure yourself to be sure.
