Since you are seeking employment some day you should look at this decision logically. Yes, Apple may be more popular and stylish but what does business use? The overwhelming majority use PC's. Apple has its niches such as education, advertising/design, etc. but for the most part when you are employed some day more than likely you will be using a PC. Now if you were married with a couple kids and have been working for 10 years and were looking for something for use at home then it is totally subjective and a matter of preference, So probably a PC is best for you. Check out gateway.com. I sold PC's for 3 years. Hard to beat what they offer for the price. Dell is decent also. If you want to go super cheap pick up a used laptop and load ubuntu and star office on it. Both free online.

P freakin' C. The PC/Apple debate is one that has been going on since the computer age's commencement, and will continue, but I have a Mac desktop @ home and a laptop for college. I <3 my PC (it's a Gateway, but HP is one of the better ones you'll get. I personally recommend those; they're extremely reliable+i've never heard anything negative about them.) The weight will vary by computer, but just go shopping and see what you like. =) Good luck!
[yes! be sure to get microsoft home+student 2007 for your computer so you can type stuff, etc. if you don't already have it!]

i am currently using the MacBook Pro 17" and it is a very solid performer. I do quite a bit of music and video and video graphics work and i have been impressed with the speed of this machine because it seems to be quite a bit faster than my dual 2gig G5. I know you would do well to get the 15" model. Besides video graphics needs I purchased the 17" because it has a dual layered DVD burner. (the built-in isight camera is great!!) This is the most solid and reliable machine I've ever owned. I am considering selling my G5 desktop because well.. I love this one so much i use it all the time. When you buy your 15" also get and extra power supply and an Airport Express wireless base station, it goes everywhere and is very compact and gives you the ability to play iTunes into your stereo wirelessly.

Either would be fine for your use. In my experience, people who own PC's love their PC's, and people who own Apples love there APPLE's. I'd recommend a Lenovo Thinkpad (PC). They cost a little extra, but are very rugged, and since you'll likely be toting it around with you a lot, having one that is sturdy and not just pretty is a big plus. I have one as my work computer and its great. You may need to uninstall some of the worthless apps that come pre-installed though.

I've had both. I loved my PC because when I had it, it was still on the Operating System XP. Now all of the PCs have the Operating System Vista on it, which is by far the worst Operating System on the market. Now I have a MacBook and it is the best switch I have made with computers. You can do everything from managing your pictures with iPhoto, making music with GarageBand, making websites with iWeb, and with the iWork 09 suite that recently came out, you can write papers, make slideshows, and make graphs or spreadsheets. It is by far the best Operating System made to date.
Oh and you can run a virtual machine on BootCamp to run your windows software

Well, honestly and based on my professional experience Apple is far ahead in terms of quality (stability, performance etc) though it's a bit pricey. If money is not an issue go for an Apple else you shoud buy a laptop with core 2 duo, screen 14-15.4 max, memory 3gb, graphis either ATI or NVIDIA.

Go cheap for just writing. A PC is more compatible with others, but get Microsoft Word. You see, the Apple will cost twice as much.
Good luck

PC like a Dell XPS or an HP. I've used Macs and they are completely overpriced and not even that good. Macs can't play games and can't be customized. Most software is written for PCs.

PC is compatible with almost everything, but it's vulnerable to most viruses and the like because everyone has a PC. Just get good antivirus and anti-spyware software and you should be good. Most people just like Apple because it has a more fun user interface and it's "pretty".

Apples are a lot better. They protect you against almost all viruses. They run great, they start very quickly. They also come with itunes, a web camera, you can make movies, there is garage band, and a lot more. Hope this helped.
