LOL! I didn't know a dutch oven was an alternative heating method (effective but smelly!).
Seriously, a dutch oven is a cast iron kettle. Sometimes it has a glass lid, other times it has a metal lid that you can shovel hot coals on. It's wonderful because it retains heat so well, and distributes it very nicely. It can work on the stove top or in the oven.
Le Crueset makes some really fancy and expensive ones. I got mine at an outlet store . . . either Corelle or Paul Revere . . . ages ago. Sometimes you can fiind them in camping stores.

A Dutch oven is a thick-walled iron (usually cast iron) cooking pot with a tight-fitting lid. It is commonly referred to as a 'camp oven' in the Australian bush, cocotte in French, as a 'casserole dish' in British English, and is similar to both the Japanese tetsunabe and the Sač IPA: [satʃ], a traditional Balkan cast-iron oven.
I believe a porcelain dish with a lid will suffice...
