Isn't Social Security Just a Giant Ponzi Scam?

Earlier "investors" are being paid directly from "contributions" of new participants, right? Why, do you think the American people are so gullible and spineless to continue allowing themselves to be duped by Republicans and Democrats? If Social Security was operated by private individuals or institutions all involved would have their assets confiscated and would be sent away to prison for many years but the government gets away with it and politicians who depend it keep getting re-elected.
