Is NASA Big Brothers little sister?

Why should I believe anything coming from them? I mean if they agree that global warming is real then wouldn't they have to put away their toys since they are pumping tons of pollution into our environment? How much is their work really needed anymore?

Update:

How much more do we REALLY need to know about space? Seriously, there are other more important things to learn about right here on earth! I'm not saying do away with it all together but I don't see how wheather some distant planet has a certain gas has anything to do with me/us.

Your driving to and from work every day for a year puts out more pollution (carbon) into the environment than the shuttle which uses liquid hydrogen and oxygen which create an exhaust of water vapor. There are only one or two shuttle flights per year now.

What benefits have we received and continue to receive?

There are weather and cartographic programs, medical breakthroughs, software breakthroughs, new alloys.. all from research that originated for the shuttle program.

One really cool thing I read about is a insulating powder they discovered that can now be mixed into any kind of paint increasing your energy savings.

I, for one, hope we never lose NASA.
