I would love to here the reasons why a baseball writer would leave Ricky Henderson off his ballot?
The guy is a sure fire HOF player. Probably the best lead off hitter of all-time! Is it just that some guys won't vote you in on your 1st ballot no matter who you are? If that is it they should lose their vote. What do you think?

Writers should not allow "little Quirks" to enter into the voting. I guy us either HOF material or he is not. I doubt any one had 12 other guys that they felt should be in and needed their vote more than Rickey. From what I have heard there is no limit to the # of names you can put on the ballot anyway. The writers pull this crap all the time. Another example is the golden glove voting. Think back to when Rafael Palmiero won at 1B when he played 20 games there. (The true winner should have been Tino Martinez). I hate to tell people how to vote but there are some guys that should be automatic on the ballot. Gwynn and Ripken are both examples. I also believe that they should have a fan vote and anyone that gets over 70% of the fan vote goes on the "Fan" ballot (which would count as one vote)

Some voters don't think that any player deserves to get 100% of the vote, since players such as Ruth, Cobb, DiMaggio and Mays didn't get elected unanimously. Others, for reasons that escape me, don't vote for anyone on his first year on the ballot. And some may not have liked Henderson personally. This last reason is what kept Rice from getting elected until now. Sportswriters are not required to be the most logical and unemotional people around.

There are understandable reasons and petty reasons.
I wanted to vote for 12 players and since I knew both Ripken and Gwynn didn't need my vote, I voted for the other 10. This is an actual reason and it's valid.
I'm just not a 'Rickey-guy' is not valid (to me)
Some guys want to be the one rogue that doesn't vote for a guy to get his name known, others want to punish people for missing something. Rickey was self-centered, Biggio didn't hit for enough power, Gywnn got slow and fat, etc

Some of the writers who have voting privileges have their own little "quirks," and there's not much you can do or say about it.
They compare everyone to Ruth and Gehrig, and if theres not a prrfect match then someone will always vote against the candidate.
