Male Parakeet attacking Female over feeding babies?
My male and Female have three Babies that are doing well.I separated the family into their own cage, they were free flighted before.Yesterday, one of the other males attacked one of the Babies, this is why I separated them.Today<i let the Male out after having to pull him off of the Female. The Male is currently flying around, unhappy. Will the Female be able to keep up, do I allow the male to continue the feeding as he wants or should I just pull the Babies altogether and feed them myself? They are 3 weeks old today.
That sound like very experinced advice, thanks for reading between the lines on the ages,I forgot to mention it.What I have done is take the babes after letting mom feed them, and i let them have dad time to see if this would help,at least this way the dad isnt trying to kill the mom so far.I am sure evrything will get back to normal soo\n,I just want these one timme chicks to have their chance at life. The parents are six years old,and i have never seen him treat her that way at all...Thanx again
We decided to keep the Female in,this way(a)she cant lay more eggs with the other highly jealous Male, and (b)no more birdy fights.Even with their freedom restored, and the other Male in a cage, they were still fighting!!My only slight worry is it seems that she has to work her butt off to do it herself, but at least the chicks seem ok,I am going to try to weigh them to monitor their progress.Thanx for your help,I really appreciate it.

Moving the family has definitely stressed out the male. As parakeets lay their eggs every second day and start to incubate immediately, assuming only 3 eggs laid their is 6 day age difference between your 1st and 3rd babies so the 3rd one could be as young as 2 wks. My advice would be to carefully monitor the male, try and keep them in a quiet place away from where people are coming and going. If the male is still being aggressive I would remove him and see if the female will complete the raising of the chicks by herself. The oldest one should be ready to fledge the nest in about a week but will still need parental feedings for about another week after that. I would not resort to hand feeding unless all else fails.
Edit:
Stress can do a lot of strange things. It is very unusal for the male to turn on his mate it usually is the other way around. In order to give the chicks the best chance possible if the parents are still not getting along leave the female to finish raising them. if you keep moving them between one parent and the other you could end up with one of the parents killing the chicks. They don't have to have a dad in the way humans do. I do hope they all make it through ok.

Yes, there is ownership tension going on. Seperate the mom from the dad, and slowly get them together over time. My dogs are the same way, we sent the male to our Gparents house, after a while the female oviosley was lonely.
