Will humans go extinct? ?
Will humans go extinct?
Or will we instead evolve into different species?
To people who say we are smart:
Actually survival wise we are absolutely the stupidest creature on this planet. Nothing else kills their own as much as we do and nothing else destroys as much as we do.

No we won't go extinct because our brains will figure out a way to survive. As landmass moves towards north eventually we will have another ice age on our hands which will kill most of the living creatures and the survivors will evolve into other creatures but that is 5 million years away.
As for the evolution part, all living things will evolve as the years go by to cope with changes in nature. The HUMAN DNA changes every 20000 years so in the next 100000 years we humans will change 5 times and could turn into a new kind of an animal. Our DNA has already created people of all sorts of shapes and races so why not change us into a new species.

We'll go extinct eventually....all creatures do. That's life.
Odds are we won't be all or even *mostly* Homo sapiens sapiens by then though. There are six *billion* of us here on this planet, and our influence on life here, just as predators, far and away surpasses what's being done in terms of pollution and introducing alien species to habitats:

My point? We'll evolve first. Some of us will stay roughly the same, maybe a few of us will "improve" some how, but:
Most of us will *degenerate* and become less than who we were. It'll just be a necessity if current trends continue for any serious length of time, as more animal species go extinct en masse, leaving niches barren and empty. Something will have to fill the void, and at some point, all we will have left, literally, is *people*.
And of course, the fundies will nominate themselves to be the herd animals, as is their wont. ^__^ They will *literally be* the next sheep in the flock if this keeps up. And why not, it isn't like they're actually *using their heads anyway* now is it?
Why yes, I am stressed-out and feeling MEAN right now, why do you ask? >_<
But yeah....We'll all evolve first, then die. And most of us won't die as "human" as we are, unless current trends change deeply and radically. Not that they couldn't--this is the only real norm for our kind--but still....
There is no free lunch in this universe. It rather sucks that way, that we're stuck with the Boring, Dull, Lifeless Pit Version of reality. Meaning: whatever big change happens next, it might well cost us a continent, our civilization, or something *else* really big.
Just my stinking plug nickel. ^_^

Neanderthals became extinct after about 250,000 years and the modern day human is only about 40,000 years old. I'd be amazed if we last as long as the neanderthals did. Species have to die off and face extinction for new species to arise and flourish. It may be a combination of both, We will continue to evolve but there may be some sort of occurrance or incedent that we might not survive. Anything is possible.
Well look at that, notice how defensive christians get.. I think they are getting a tad bit scared..

I think first we will end up killing each other by billions in about 50 years when we run out of water. Then a disease will break out just like 1918 and wipe another few billions off.
As for the extinction, I don't see that happening there are simply too many of us. I think we will evolve.

No, humans will not go extinct and if there is going to be any mutations it will take a million years.

Survival of the fittest... Only the strongest and smartest cats and dogs will survive. Rest assured, that some WILL survive and revert to a wild type, like the dingos of Australia. We bred domestic dogs and cats from wild ancestors, and many possess the skills to survive long enough to breed (these are the ones who don't do well as pets). With each generation, the "fittest" will survive, breeding and creating others with similar characteristics.

Yes. If we continue at our current pace of poisoning our air, water, and soil - YES. If we continue to destroy and exterminate other species of flora and fauna at a rate of 1000 times faster than a mere 100 years ago - YES.
We are not an island - all species of plants and animals serve a purpose, are all interconnected, and to destroy one strand of the web has far-reaching repercussions for the entire planet.
We are too stupid and self-destructive to survive.
Homo sapiens has only been on the planet for a mere speck of time when compared with the history of the planet. A few thousand years is a drop in the bucket when compared with billions upon billions.

Who'll ever find out? If we do then there won't be any way of knowing it until it happens, and if we don't then how will we know if we ever end up going extinct?

We won't go extinct if the governments start regulating who can have children and how many.

because we make up such a large population of the earth, there would have to be a serious disaster to hit the earth in order for our whole species to go extinct, it it more likely that we will evolve as our environment changes, either through those best suited surviving a mass epidemic or climate change
