Little House on the Prairie Nellie's Restaurant ?

I am wondering why the sign on the restaurant say's "Nellie's Restaurant and Hotel", but the window says "Caroline's Restaurant and Hotel". I know it belonged to Nellie and that Caroline was the cook, but why was Caroline's name put on the window and Nellie's never removed? Thanks!

When Mrs. Olsen first gave Nellie the place she couldn't cook. She didn't want to. Her Mother gave it to her to catch a husband. So, Mrs. Olsen brought in Percival Dalton to teach Nellie to cook. Because she was a terrible cook and mean, he suggested changing the name to "Caroline's" and splitting the profits with Mrs. Ingalls.

If I recall correctly, Mrs. Oleson brought in some efficiency guy to help the restaurant run well. Since Nellie hated cooking and Caroline was essentially doing it all and was so well liked in town - the guy convinced Mrs. Oleson that they would make more money if they cut Caroline in on the deal. Putting the name on the restaurant window was to sweeten the pot and entice Caroline to agree to it!

Everyone in the town hated nellie, so they thought it would attract more business if Caroline's name was in the window ! :)

Nellie also ended up marrying Percival, and they had twins.
