What are your opinions on James LaBrie as a vocalist?
Like I said in Lily's Q, yesternight, while I was watching the Chaos In Motion video by Dream Theater, my brother said "You enjoy that music? The vocalist is like a tribesman (or a caveman, something like that, I guess) chanting. I thought you only listen to vomit-like vocals! Hahahahaha!"
I just reasoned out "No, I'm really into the guitars and keyboards."

Hey there Bro!
I am a Dream Theater fan and in addition a HUGE!!! HUGE!!!
John Petrucci fan he is in my Top 5 favorite guitarists. He is one of those players that can play with Intense Skill and INTENSE EMOTION. Good solos to get a Glimpse of how passionate he is as an Emotional player are songs Lines In The Sand and Hells Kitchen.
I don't listen to DT near as much as I used to because of James, he is a good vocalist with some good Vibrato Technique but I am sorry at times he is just flat out Chessy. An example of Cheesy Vocals in DT are in The Dark Eternal Night. I am not a fan of James but I do like the previous and first DT vocalist Charlie Dominici I am also a fan of his band. Which most people hate his vocals more than they do James.
I can tolerate James in some of my favorite songs
Trial Of Tears - one of my all time favorites and very Rush sounding.
Lines In The Sand
Under A Glass Moon
Metrop. Part 1
The Mirror (solo reprise following and after song Lie)
Edit
I forgot a song that I ALSO LOVE

Most of the people I've met and seen on here despise that man, well not exactly but I suppose you get my point. He's a good vocalist people, I don't think replacing him with anyone else will add anything to their music, would you like to disagree about this band's perfection?

I never cared for him.
I really liked Charlie Dominci better, and wish they had stayed together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2JVQf9ihhs
Though at least I get to enjoy listening to Dominici's solo band too.

As for DT, I definitely prefer them for the drums and guitar then for the vocals, or even the keys or bass. All in all I think sometimes they are all trying to hard to stand out, instead of supporting each other.
But I think your brother, for all his Metal ignorance, rather eloquently summated LaBrie's singing style.

He's a very talented singer. Especially for one who can hit the F#5 in Learning to Live.

Hes an awsome singer. But his vocals are a little shakey when he sings live sometimes. But voices change when ya get older too

the music is good but yes his vocals can be downright awful at times
