Has anyone tried using a satellite tv dish for amateur radioastronomy?

I'm thinking about trying to convert an old 24" rooftop satellite dish into a small radiotelescope. Has anyone here tried this? Is there software available which converts received raw radio waves into useful imagery? Any information at all would be helpful!

Update:

Thanks, Tina L! Yeah, I know that an 8' array would be better, but my wife would kill me. ;D

you should know better than to ask a technical question here. :-)

a 24" dish is a little small. you could have fun with an old 8 foot c band dish. do a search for the society of amateur radio astronomers.

It´s possible but technically thin...you dont make a radio telescope but a radio receiver of extraterrestrial waves, like SETI project, right?...an equipment to transform cosmic waves on images is very expansive, and only few countries have them

I had an old 8 ft dish that I tried that with but I kept getting the same 6EQUJ5 signal over and over.
