The longest continuous temperature record is the Hadley Centre's Central England Temperature series. It starts around 1850.

Weather balloon temperature measurements become useable by about 1958.

Satellite measurements had started by 1980.

The longest useful record of carbon dioxide concentrations is from Mauna Loa, Hawaii, and was started by Charles Keeling in about 1958.

Observations of sunspots and maritime records go back further.

The longest high-precision paleoclimate record are the EPICA ice cores. They give us an idea of carbon dioxide levels and temperature levels going back about 600,000 years.

Is this question a joke? There's like 5 weather stations listed in your blog there. How the hell do you go from 5 to "most of the 1,221 weather stations"? Typical global warming skeptic tactic - distort the data. First off, most of the weather stations are in isolated areas, as they should be. Secondly, even the ones that are poorly placed have been studied and shown not to significantly affect their results. Thirdly, even if those few stations were flawed, they would be consistently flawed. In other words, they would always have readings that were too high. They wouldn't have readings that were getting hotter every year. Fourthly, global warming has been measured by other methods besides weather stations, such as ice cores and by satellites. So yes, the argument is still valid.

Information that is used in climatology varies greatly. There are temperature readings from the 1600's (Santorio Santorii is creditited with the first thermometer in 1611) but the methods (placement readings and abundance of data points) and technology available makes them less accurate than today's readings. Also when calculating the the Asian landmass mean temperature (mean temperature is darn near the most useless calculation on a global scale) the Siberian stations were lost due to the Soviet collapse. Therefore the temperature was infered, modeled, or excluded, but regardless the overall Asian landmass mean temperature increased as a result. This in my mind caused the percieved global warming trend because they removed all the actual data from Siberia!

Ice cores, rock formations, and tree rings are used to infer paleoclimate, but the range of error is so great that paleoclimatologists do not subscribe to anthropogenic climate change.

Garbage in, Garbage out! Yes it's flawed. The whole idea is flawed. We have had Global Warming, and Global Cooling long before Man ever existed. Why do humans think they have that much power on the universe. Must be a God like complex.

It has only been in the latter of the last century (90's).

The data is very inconclusive and highly theoretical. We have not been studying the Earth long enough with adequate technology to actually make a claim that the Earth is Warming.

I think the real scientific theories of Global Warming are more adequate which place us still coming out of the last ice age.

There is no 'global warming' data. Only climate change data, and like the person above me I like to agree with his view on the 'climate change'.

    Hello,

To use the correct termonology, 'climate change' which used to be called Global Warming is a funny thing. First the democrats say the Earth is heating up which is called Global warming, then they change the name to climate change. So once the Earth starts cooling all the democrats will change the name from climate change to Global cooling. "We were correct that the Earth was in a climate change, but we believed it to be a warming change, now that we have studied the facts more we found out the Earth is actually cooling." The Earth has natural rises and drops in temperature, it has been proven over thousands of years.
