Google Sites looks pretty good for creating a website without knowledge of HTML. If not check out Free Web Hosting for sites that provide it.

I don't think you can get a .co.uk or .com domain free, but at a few pounds per year it may be worth it. If not try one of the redirectors like go.to.

I would not suggest going with free because the site will go down often and the customer support is usually non existent.

The trouble with free hosting sites is many seem to pop up one day and are gone a few months, weeks or even days later. You need to use a host that has been established for a couple of years at least and has at least a few thousand members. One of the older established sites is Freeservers and it is constantly upgrading servers to cope with the extra sign-ups. All sites that are free have to put up with adverts and sometimes these can interfere with your page layout. Freeservers adds are at the top of the page so you know exactly where you are with your page building.

domain name registration is never free whereas you can get web server to upload files for free actually there are 100s. If you contact hosting company who give free domains, they will hook up domain charges in server, faking that they are giving you free dom registration. There are many small hosting companies which offer £40 or less for web server and domain for a year....check ebay
