I just installed an additional 500GB HD, I can see it in the device manager but it i go to "My Computer" it still only shows the main drive. Also when i go to check the status of the HD's in the device manager, the HD that is working says online(errors), and the one that is not working just says online and that it is working properly, help needed asap, thank you

In addition to device manager, did you look in disk management. Maybe you need to assign it a drive letter. The only other cause is a registry issue. I had an issue some years ago where the cd rom would not show in my computer, but it showed up in the device manager. It was something to do with filters, but I cannot remember what. Changing something in the registry fixed the issue. But hopefully it is something as simple as assigning the cd rom a drive letter in disk management? Hope that helps. If worst comes to worst, just re-install the OS. sounds drastic, but I have learnt sometimes it is quicker to re-install the OS than to spend days, weeks trying to find the cause of the problem.

A majority of HDD's aren't formatted, I'm assuming that you are either useing XP or Vista.

On your desktop, right click My Computer-Properties-Manage-Disk Management-Right click on the new the and format.

It'll ask you for a few other options for you to choose from:Primary partition, extended partition(preferably unless you intend to boot from the drive, then select primary)

(if you opted for the option if not Start-Programs-Accessories-Computer)

  • I dont know if this will work. it sounds like the 500GB hard drive isnt working... or you could right click My Conmputer and hit Manage. go into Disk Management. find your 500gb disk. if theres no boxes after it ( like with your c drive ) then it needs to be either partitioned or reformatted ( reformat to NTFS any way, its too big ) hope you enjoyed my answer.

Right click "My Computer", select "Manage". Select "Disk Management" - you should see your drive in there. You can select to format it first in there, or if already formatted right click it and select "Map Drive letter" - select and drive letter, then you'll see it in "My Computer". You might want to run a chkdsk on the drive if it reports any issues.
