Can i replace my 478 socket Processor with any 478 socket processor?
I use a Dell Deminision 4600 that has a 478 socket slot, and my processor is burnt. Can i replace that processor with any 478 pin processor or does it have to be the same model that came with the dell?
My processor is the 533 FSB is there a replacement you can find.

No, socket 478 CPU's cannot be replaced with just any socket 478 CPU.
The Dimension 4600 is compatible with:
Microprocessor type
Intel® Pentium® 4 that runs at 2.26, 2.4, 2.533, 2.66, 2.8, or 3.06 GHz internally and 533 MHz externally, or 2.4, 2.6, 2.8, 3.0, 3.2, or 3.4 GHz internally and 800 MHz externally
The Prescott Pentium 4 3.0GHz with FSB 800MHz is still available for sale.

You have to check the chipset on your motherboard first, some chipset support only up to a certain FSB speed and beyond that they can't. I don't many places where you can still buy a 478 socket processor though.

Yes ONLY a Socket 478 Pentium 4 will work.... any speed.

you can replace it with any processor that has the 478 interface slot but take care because the type of mainboard might not support processors that have a certain frequency.

Most of the time you have to use the same model/core, etc.
If you look at OEM mobo's, you'll notice that each socket can only handle *This CPU* or *That CPU* and sometimes both.
I would talk to the manufacturer to be sure about what you're doing first...
