Where did this saying come from?

"News of my death has been greatly exaggerated."

I have seen it used a few times, most notably by Captain Picard on Star Trek. I know how Star Trek likes to use classics, as though it shows how much we've advanced in the future.

I just came across a headline that Microsoft is saying the same thing about Zune.

I was just wondering where the saying came from. I figured some classic book or major figure in history, but I don't know where to look to find out. So I'm coming to you guys.

Thanks for any help.

In 1897, author Mark Twain got quite a news flash--that he had died! A reporter showed up at his door to confirm the story. Instead, Twain, whose real name was Samuel Clemens, sent back a clever reply: "The news of my death has been greatly exaggerated."
