Avg. bond enthalpy for C=C is 614KJ/mol and C-C is 348KJ/mol. How much energy can cut the pi bond of 2-butene.?

    Subtract the bond enthalpy of the c-c bond from that of the c=c bond, and you have the amount of energy released during that reaction. This is, of course, not taking into account what else those two carbons are then bonding to, which would influence the overall energy of the reaction.

    Anyway:

    614-348=266kJ/mol
