When my car starts you here the engine knock real quick like there is no oil in the car then it goes away and is real faint. But when I start driving I hear it when I am cruising at a certain RPM. but then when I get on it and haul @#$ it doesnt make that noise. Could this be a valve or piston? and if so what noises would I look for. Thanks
Also i live in New Orleans and its not really that cold and it always makes noise it never goes away except at certain RPM's

Subaru is known for "piston slap" where it is real noisy in temps under 55. Does it stop after the engine gets up to operating temp? Subaru engines are kinda noisy anyway. The valves tick a little and such. They will run forever but the flat design is a little noisy.
I run Valvoline 5W-30 synthetic in my Subaru 2.5L and it helps the noisiness. If it is super loud or if it doesn't quiet down once it gets to operating temp, you may have another issue.
Search on Yahoo "Subaru piston slap" and you can listen to it and determine if it is normal or not.
Good Luck!
