Mm that is assuming though that telepaths would communicate with words, like talking to each other in their heads. There is no reason to believe that's how they 'talk'.

I'm sure it would be a much more rounded, intergrated form of communication,by thoughts, feelings, impressions, being able to sense what the other is thinking,be aware how they feel by being able to tap into that feeling.

Words can actually be a very vague and imprecise way of communicating,This I have found out through text messaging !!!

Ok for things like - be finished work at 4.30pm will pick up a pint of milk on the way home, for example then fine it's a simple,matter-of-fact message which can only really be interpureted in one way.

But see if I've fallen out with my gf,want to explain myself and how I feel to her,be cheeky of wind her up or inshort say anything more complicated than the example message above then I regularly find what I txt her and send she takes in a way I didn't mean,or even occur to me it could be taken that way. Then I have to txt again to explain what I initially meant and so it goes on !!!

Why is that, cos I can't articulate my thoughts with words ??,,because she isnt too intelligent and mildly dislexyic ??

No it's because the message is purely words and therefore are useless for more that simple messages,,what I mean is if I had sat down infront of her and said what i thought, using exactly the same words as I'd texted she'd have understood straight away because she would have heard my words but also how I said them, which ones I emphasised,my facial expressions, body language,we'd have been in eye contact etc.i.e the much of the way we communicate even while talking is by non verbal triggers and signs even if you're not conciously aware of picking up on them.

A txt message works for simple arrangements but one you start to express thought, idea or feelings purely by words on a txt message you'll find they are open to being interpereted several ways and without the person there to articulate the words with meaning and expression it's a recipe for misunderstanding.

Basically I don't believe telepathic communication would use much talking and words,I imagine you'd be able to glimpse into their mind, feel what they are feeling, they imagine a situation or idea and you could share it when they picture it,,I expect what they know at that time,or what they know in their concious mind you'd know, basically you'd transfer youre thoughts and feelings and share it.

I doubt words would be needed.

Why do you think road signs are symbols and pictures more often than words??,it's because the mind recognises understands symbols in a fraction of the time it takes to read the words,so thats how i believe telepathy would work.

So in answer to you're question (assuming the Tower of Babel story is true for the sake of the question) -

I think if anything the Babel incident would only increase our need and capacity for telepathic communication.

What I mean as sophisticated as words can be - whatever you want to express has to be translated from your mind into words then spoken to the person.

When everybody (alledgedly) originally spoke the same language then there was only one language for people to express there feelings with, then the whole Babel catastrophe occured and all of a sudden there's,what maybe,600 different languages being spoken not to mention locaised accents and modes of speech. The potential for mistranslations, misunderstandings is very real.

Telepathy, the ability to see into or 'read' others thoughs would be a far more direct and personal way for people to communicate without needing to translate thoughts into words then express those words for another person to translate back into knowledge, understanding etc.I'm sure you'd just share a thought without the need to transpose the thought for translation.

So the day we went from one language to a veritable legion of them we suddenly became a little more in need of a better, more complete way to communicate !!!

Genesis chapter 10, verses 5,20 and 31 describe Noah’s descendants spreading out over the earth “by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations.” How is this possible since God did not confuse the languages until the Tower of Babel in Genesis chapter 11? Genesis chapter 10 lists the descendants of Noah’s three sons; Shem, Ham, and Japheth. It lists their descendants for several generations. With the long lifespans of that time (see Genesis 11:10-25), the genealogies in Genesis chapter 10 likely cover several hundreds of years. The Tower of Babel account, told in Genesis 11:1-9, is a “flashback” to the point in Genesis chapter 10 when the languages were confused. Genesis 10 tells us of different languages. Genesis 11 tells us how the different languages originated.

Are the episodes and narrations in the Bible strictly according to chronological sequence? Or do they move back and forth in time?
