My desk top dvd player does not play when I insert a disc . Cd's do not play either?

Does the drive indicator come on when you close it? Check Device Manager to see if Windows is detecting the drive. Also, right click the Start button and click on Explore and see if you can see the files on that drive. It sounds as though the drive optics have gone bad.

Is it new? If it isn't then get a head cleaner, it cleans the lens inside, you can do it yourself by opening it up, just go to your local Technology store and you should be able to get one there. The instructions will be on the box. If it is new, it may be faulty so take it back to the store and get them to check it out or get it replaced. Hope i have helped :)

if it clean check the ribbon wire connecting inside the computer.
