I need ideas for a Valentines Day party at church?

I am in charge of putting together a Valentine's Day party at our church. Can you help me with any fun ideas, games, or menu items?

Do you know what I honestly miss about Valentine's day, when I was in grade school? Handing out Valentines. Sitting down and writing a nice little note to every one of my classmates, putting a little red lollipop on it, and squeezing it into that tiny envelope. Then going to school the next day and gluing tiny pink and red hearts all over a crisp white lunch bag, setting it on a table, having a fun party with all of my friends, and going back home with a bag full of fun little notes and candy from all of my friends. Maybe you could do the same thing with "inspirational" valentines (I'm sure they sell them at Alpha and Omega or someplace). Just send the word out that everyone should bring an "inspirational" valentine for everyone else, maybe just get some heart shaped ink stamps and decorate all of the bags ahead of time, and people can just walk up to each other and exchange (it will encourage everyone to mingle). As for games, if the church-goers will be mostly older you could have a Valentine's bingo tournament, or perhaps a boggle, or dominoes or card game tournament, have everybody bring a dollar and the winner of the tournament will get the money. If there are a lot of smaller kids, they LOVE musical chairs, you could play christian rock music for them. If it's teens, they will want you to leave them alone as much as possible, just set out the food, clear a space, play christian rock music and supervise from afar. As for food, Valentine's is the perfect day for strawberry cupcakes, I know that some pizza places will make you heart-shaped pizzas if you request them and then maybe chicken wings and lot's of carrots and celery with bleu cheese.

You know you will probably get a LOT more answers if you post this question in the Religion & Spirituality section

if it is finger food you need, why not do strawberries cut in half and get some chocolate dip because they look like love hearts. And you could have a fruit salad in the shapes of things that remind people of valentines day for example cupid, arrow, heart.... also why not have a pink theme because love hearts are stereotypically pink.

If this party is for kids, you could do match the celebrity couple, and if you think it is appropriate, have a hat where you pick the name of one boy and one girl and they have to slow dance...but that can get complicated. maybe you could have a mini disco, and also there need to be decorations just put up paper cupids, paper heart chains and put pink glitter everywhere. Hope most of this helps, have a nice time :) xx

Depends on the size of your gathering if this would work for you. Our church has about 125 members of all ages. We asked for wedding pictures of about 15 to 20 couples in our church (make sure to do some of the older folks) and copied them. We posted them on a board with the faces covered and had a guessing game as to who the couples were. One man who had just celebrated 35 years with his wife couldn't pick out their picture - I think she is still miffed at him - it was very funny and he still get a lot of aggravation from everyone and it's been 2 years ago!

You can also play "honey I love you, but I just can't smile"; the directions are on www.partygamecentral.com under valentine's day games. It's the one called "honey do you love me". There is a lot of good game ideas there you could use.

I think the meat you serve should be Heart shape and all the tables should have Red Roses at them.
