I wanna play high school volleyball?
I'm in 8th grade and soon enough, volleyball tryouts are gonna happen. I have never been on a volleyball team, but I've played a lot of times before and I really like it. There's a freshman team that even if you suck, you make (as long as you're a freshman); varsity; and junior varsity. I've never been very interested in sports, but volleyball is awesome. How can I make myself better?

You may be able to ask a gym teacher or something... Another possibility is to ask a freshman on the team to coach you.

try outs shouldnt be till spring... so maybe summer camp
or you could practice getting control of the ball by doing bumps and sets... or have someone throw difficult passes to you and practice your digs... work out and get into pretty good shape preseason too, not neccesarily just volleyball workouts, but running and lifting weights is effective too
and fyi for the person who answered above me... the team is not just for shitty players, it is to develope their skill and see who has potential to play varsity and jv, it also gives the coach and opportunity to evaluate the players to an extent impossible through a few days of try outs

Try going to a couple camps or clinics this Summer, so you can learn vball the right way. You can get some knee pads (I prefer Mizunos) and spandex from Sports Authority. They are the most important to start off with that and a T-shirt. have fun!!

Work on your jumping a lot. Get your legs really strong and try to improve your instincts. You have to be able to move and make decisions in seconds. Work on your shoulder strength so that you won't hurt it. (my dad dislocated his arm from that). Know what position you want to play and work on specific skills. Setter= setting, Hitter = Spiking, jumping and strength, Backcourt = Running, digging, etc.

do clinics, join a club team if its not too late.
always be positive and show the coaches your trying your hardest.
take direction, show that you can play with a team.
and you'll be fine. try to figure out which position you'd like to be.
libero, setter, outside hitter, middle hitter, or opposite.
and then show the coaches how great you are at that position.
do all this and you'll be fine.
