Its is common for your ears to occasionally do this, back in school my instructors called this a mere 'adjustment' for the ears. You will hear a tone that starts abruptly and then slowly fades out over a minute or so, typically this is a higher pitched tone.
Tinnitus, which is a constant ringing in the ears is primarily caused by physical damage to the ear, either through instant trauma or extended abuse of listening to loud sources over a period of time.. even years. Tinnitus can manifest itself in high pitched tones or even a low rumble.
Additionally Tinnitus can be caused by ear infections, diet (caffeine), and sinus infections.
My advice would be to consult an audiologist in your area and have them take a look to see if there's any damage and to do some hearing tests while you are at it.
All the best,

Tinnitus is not a disease on it's own. It is usually a symptom of many other underlying disease conditions which could have
been caused by several factors. Considering the discomfort that tinnitus causes it's sufferers, it is important to know how
to cure tinnitus.
The manifestation of tinnitus includes the sufferer perceiving all kinds and ranges of sounds. It could be high or low, and
may occur intermittently or continuously. It could be so disconcerting as to prevent a person from carrying out any
activity or even sleeping.
There are several approaches when attempting a cure for tinnitus. Of prime importance however is determining what the
underlying cause is. All treatment attempts made without isolating the real cause usually ends up being ineffective
When the sufferer visit's the hospital, the doctor tries to determine what the cause(es) might be, by quizzing the patient
to obtain a medical history. Physical examination is also carried out to deduce where the buzz being heard is coming from.
It might by this means be possible to find a quick cure for the condition if the doctor is able to locate foreign bodies,
wax or fluid causing the symptoms. Getting rid of them could immediately bring an end to the discomfort being felt by the
patient. However, most times it is not that easy.

Sounds that only you hear... Well voices and high pitched noise and occasionally a low pitches noise like a moth fluttering in the ear. Put a finger in the ear for now and it will pass. The high pitched sound is not so easy to get rid of. Voices come from the spirits and things but the noise is from your own aura or radio signal that is around you. There is a point on the radio pattern that has a low pitch. It can get in the ear also but it should be more central. You will understand more as time passes. The body is an electric generator that all living creatures have. When life is over the radio fades away. You can here the radio if you get a headset with a radio in your pocket . On the AM band is a spot where you hear a motor cycle noise as it revs and drops in pitch.

It is essential that we have all the vitamins and minerals that our body needs to function properly.
But sometimes, because of wrong food choices, the human body does not receive all the essential nutrients.
For example, if you are not getting adequate Vitamin B, then you might develop tinnitus.
Luckily however, Vitamin B is easily obtainable from grains, cereals, vegetables and fruits.
So always ensure that your eating plan includes them. Eat a well balanced meal that includes all the food groups.
A supplement can never work as well as the natural food source.
Sound Masking - This is a unique approach to provide you some relief from the tinnitus noises.
Those who suffer from tinnitus often report the problem worsening in the night. This happens because the silence of the night seems to intensify the noises heard. A masking device plays some soft natural noises that are pleasant on the ear. It is as if you are hearing some channel music at the hotel lobby or listening to your favorite composer through the earphone. The unpleasant swishing, buzzing and constant ringing is thus blocked.
Alternative tinnitus treatments may work. But there's a problem. In most cases, when using alternative remedies for tinnitus, the root contributing factors that caused all those noises remain, and so the sounds will come back as soon as you have stopped following these treatments.
The only way you could ever get rid of your tinnitus for good is by following the holistic approach to healing. By using a multidimensional treatment for tinnitus, we are tackling all tinnitus causative factors and eliminating these triggering elements from the root. This is the only path for permanent freedom from tinnitus.

The symptoms of tinnitus can cause a lot of annoyance and problems for the sufferer. And on top of that, the symptoms could be confusing as well. Let
us take an example to understand this better.
You were leading a perfectly good life, going to work and coming back home everyday, but all of a sudden you begin to hear strange noises in the ear. Of
course you believe that there must be a source of these noises. But strangely, no one else seems to hear them. You might become scared and think that
the noises are coming from within your body, and so you go and meet your doctor. After a few examinations, the doc confirms that everything is fine
within you. But the problem is, you still hear these noises. They are beginning to get on your nerves and affect you at work. And worst, the noises seem
to become worse at night, robbing you of your precious sleep.

This sounds like a medical issue.
You say "in my ear" so I am assuming you hear the low sound (surging, or ringing?) in only one ear. Yes?
Do you have hearing loss- any level of hearing loss- in one ear more than the other?
Do you ever feel very dizzy when you move your eyes or turn your head?
If you answer Yes to two or three of the above, you may have Vertigo or Meniere's Disease.
Go see a Dr. Describe the symptoms and you may have to get some tests.
Certainly the Dr will listen and if you do have dizziness, not caused by some other condition, the Dr. will give you some medicine that helps reduce the dizziness. The ringing in the ear is not curable but can be reduced somewhat.

Tinnitus affects over 36 million Americans. A medical condition arising from dysfunction in the auditory system, tinnitus
is characterized by persistent ringing, roaring, and/or clicking noises that rarely subside. If you have tinnitus, it can
make you feel like you're going crazy. But you don't have to suffer - tinnitus is treatable.
Before you can treat tinnitus, it's important to know what causes it. The short answer: a variety of things. Tinnitus can
be caused by something as simple as wax buildup on the eardrum, or something more serious like a tumor on the hearing
nerve. Various ear diseases are associated with tinnitus, as are effects from drug or alcohol abuse.
But most often it's repeated exposure to loud noises like gunfire, rock concerts, and chain saws that cause tinnitus. So it
makes sense that one of the best ways to prevent tinnitus is to protect and preserve your hearing, whose complex mechanism
turns sound waves into meaningful information your brain can process and identify.
Sound waves enter the ear canal and vibrate the ear drum. This causes the middle ear mechanism (ossicles) to vibrate,
sending the sound waves on to the inner ear and brain. Here they are turned into data your brain recognizes as sounds. Soft
sounds like whispers don't cause any harm, but loud sounds like airplane jets cause discomfort and, after repeated
exposure, hearing damage such a tinnitus.
