My 2 yr old catahoula leopard dog has vomited once a day, for the last four days.?

the amount is usually very little and is only liquid. Tonight he threw up a huge quantity of what look like part dog food, and part meat of some sort. ( i feed him twice daily with a high quality lamb and rice dog food)

I travel back and forth from my home, where he is indoors except for his walks, to my mother's home where he gets to run all over a very large farm, though he still comes in when he wants. We spend equal amounts of time at both places each week. I would assume he may have eaten something at the farm, as he is quite fond of the deer carcasses that are often dumped near my mom's place, but the vomiting started while we were at our home.

He is still very active, playful. The stools I have chanced upon seeing have been normal. His water intake is normal. He is up to date on shots, although he is past due for worming. His stomach doesn't appear to be bloated, and his nose isn't real wet, or dry (normal). He is neutered if that matters.

I am just worried about him. I know I will get some answers to take him to the vet, and I will, especially if he seems in acute distress, the last time I took him to the vet, because he had a rash on his belly, it cost $380 after they ran all their tests, and I simply don't have the money right now.

So my question is do you think I can just wait and observe him for the next few days, or do I need to call the vet first thing in the morning?

He is very important to me, and I wish he could speak human so I could just ask him : )

Thanks for taking the time to read all of this!

If he's thrown up meat, I'd be concerned that he may have eaten rotten deer meat. Given that he's been throwing up for 4 days now, if he were my dog, I'd be taking him to the vet if he's not better by morning. Would you let your child stay sick this long without doing something?

Well, if this were my dog, I'd be a little concerned with him eating the dead deer carcasses. Some of that meat could be rancid and full of all kinds of parasites. Since he is past due on his worming medication, he may very well have all kinds of worms going on inside there. I'd at least take him in and get him current on his worm medication and have a stool sample examined. I'd at least call the vet and ask him about this, but I'd also take him in and have the stool sample done.

Try fasting him for 24 hours. Make sure he has plenty of water. Since he is throwing up I would buy a few Electrolyte packs (or just put some gatorade in his bowl). After the 24 hours try small amounts of bland foods (like some chicken) over a couple of hours to see if he can keep it down. If he is still throwing up then call the vet.

give him some worm meds and make sure he has lots of water. sounds like worms and since he is on a very low fat diet the worms are upsetting his stomach and he is throwing up. also check his gums see if they are pale. try the worm meds first b/c it is very expensive for the vet. most the time its something stupid that's wrong with our pets and we will pay to find out what it is. so they run alot of UN-necessary tests and empty our wallets because they know people who bring their pets to the vet will pay to make sure their pet is healthy. (this is told to me by 2 country vet friends). if he seems normal and is still eating and drinking you should'nt worry too much.. if he goes off his food and refuses water or starts throwing up yellow liquids (bile) and or diarrhea then you need to get him to the vet asap.

If he is still throwing up in the morning than call your vet. 4 days is a long time.

Take your dog to the vet or at least have his stool exanined. It could be Whip worms which can cause Parvo like symptoms and you could lose your dog very quickly once it spreads throughout the dog's system.

I'd call the vet in the morning.

It might be something serious -- and it's better safe than sorry.
