Do you think Presidential pardons are a good thing?
Just before leaving office, our Presidents begin going over lists of prisoners, submitted by their sponsors, seeking pardons for offenses they may or may not be guilty of. It has become a 'right of passage' for our ousted Presidents. Do you think it's in the best interests of the country, or is it time to get rid of this practice?
Choronix, that's the defining injustice in the process, that the guilty can be pardoned while the innocent can remain imprisoned. Ramos and Compean should have been released months ago, and were still waiting to see if they will recieve a presidential pardon or be left protective solitary to continue their sentences.

No. Those people are in jail for a reason. If their guilt is in question, then it is time to take it to appeal court. Pardons are just another way for presidents to further their own agenda while overstepping their authority.
I sure hope Obama doesn't pardon Blagojevich when and if he is convicted of fraud and all those other charges and gets 30 years in the federal pen.

Yes, they can be good, and generally used wisely.
didn't forget, a state Governor can also pass out a Pardon.
a Gov. and a President Can give someone a Pardon at Anytime they hold that office.
however, most often, they wait to use this Power of Pardoning one or more people during the very last portion of their term.
Why do they wait?
because if they pardon someone early in their term of office, the Media, and or Public Outcry for the person that got one might damage the politician's career if the Media or the Public dont understand, or like the person that got Pardoned

I've never really known what to think of it. Although the one case I read about this year was with the guy who unintentionally killed (I think it was 2) bald eagles because he had put out poison to kill rodents which the eagles caught and ate and died as a result. I think in a case like that it's a good practice, when it's something that is out of the persons control but they are imprisoned on a technicality.

They may have been put there by the founding fathers but a criminal act requiring a pardon is still a criminal act and should not be sanction by an out going president (especially a really bad one )

Yes, take the instance of the two border agents now in prison for shooting and wounding an ILLEGAL DRUG SMUGGLER. They were protecting our nation from the degenerate subspecies that is Latin America who was trying to sneak contraband into our country. And how do we repay them? We imprison them.

no they aren't they should change that our constitution is a living document so they have the right to change whatever they need to. The people who commit the crime should face the consequences like everyone else in the world.
