What is the difference in the Nintendo Wavebird and the regular Gamecube controller?

I see that the Wavebird seems to be very popular but don't understand what makes it better than the regular Gamecube wireless controller? Can someone tell me what makes one better than the other and what the differences are? Thanks!

    WaveBird = wireless

    regular = wired

    It's wireless, so that's pretty much the only reason it's better. It also lacks rumble, so if you like rumble, keep your old controller.
