I love the look of Sowrdtail fish. They are not aggressive, have bright colours and look cool. Try to get the male ones as they have to actual "sword tail" the females just have a normal tale! Most people don't like Tiger Barbs but I think they look cool. Danios look like a normal minow with some neat patterns and they are very active. Look into these types of fish, they are inexpensive an great to watch!

goldfish make too much waste, pipe fish look weird, chichilds need brackish water.

get a book or google, search hardy freshwater beginner fish and read about the tank keeping process. dont get all your fish at once. danios are good, but may be a bit small at first. get giant zebra danios, if you want.

I have always liked the cichlid family although you have to make sure they have plenty of room to be able to go to their corner. They are so much prettier and more interesting and some will have live babies. If you put to many together though the will have face offs and sometimes kill each other.

3-5 Yellow Labs(Labidochromis) is good for 30 Gallons. They're very active and hardy.

i like cichlid type fish such as convicts etc as thay actually do other things than just swim about
