How to make a blanket?

I want to make a blanket that looks like a piece of bread. And then maybe another one like a piece of lettuce. How can I give it the sort of textured look of delicious toasty bread?

I like the idea of the previous answer. I would applique on a blanket the shape of the bread or lettuce. Go to a quilting fabric store..there you will find all different kinds of prints of material that can be used for such things..you might want to use one for the top crust and another a shade lighter for the bottom of the loaf...lettuce can be made with green shaded colours done in leaves, or in strips of different shades appliqued on a blanket too.

Wow, a tough one. Look for a yarn that goes from darker to lighter brown and back every few inches, and use a darker brown for the crust outline. It's the outline of the crust that will make or break it, so make sure the outline has that classic slice of bread shape. Being that it's a blanket, I imagine that it will be rectangular, so maybe a checker tablecloth background for it around the edges?

The lettuce one will be a bit tougher, as you will want to show the veins of the lettuce leaves, to make it look realistic. But again, you can put some kind of a border on it to make it look like it is on a cutting board, or a table.
