How can I teach my baby to roll over?

My baby girl is 9 months old and sits and plays for hours. If i put her on her stomach she will give up right away on trying to move. She has only rolled from her stomach to her back maybe 6 times on her own. She doesn't seem to get it... is this an essential milestone?? (Can you tell she's my first :-)

    Babies are not "taught" to roll over. All of us are different, including babies, and they do things at their own pace. My daughter at 1 year old, who is now 11, sat and watched her twin brother run around the house like crazy. She just sat and watched and observed. One day when we least expected it, she got up and walked into the next room. We were like "What just happened?"

    I believe that as parents we want our babies to do everything "on schedule". You didn't mention if she was fluffy/chunky (this is my favorite type of baby), maybe her tummy is where she is most comfortable right now. You also stated that she has done it on her own at some point.

    New parent, relax.There will come a day when she is older that you will wish that she was still on her tummy and not running! Lets not even talk about when she to goes to school! Take this time to appreciate her little feet and hands and that she explores the world with her tiny, slobby mouth; she will be 14 years old before you know it{{^_^}}

    Our son rolled over a few times at 5 months and has not been that interested since. Sometimes we put him on his belly and when he starts to roll over and stops midway, we give him a little push and then clap and say "Yay!" which he seems to like.

    I've also noticed that he does better on a firmer surface, like a play mat on the wood floor, unfortunately once or twice he's bonked his head flipping himself over too fast.

    Is your baby on the big side? My ped said that baby's that are a little large for their age sometimes have trouble rolling, but that it's not that big of a deal.

    My son is also 9months and can sit for quite some time playing, but has barely rolled at all. And if he's sitting and topples over, he can't get himself back up. He rolls side to side a lot, sometimes flipping on his stomach, then gets mad! lol..

    I've learned not to worry about these things...they do what they want to do...

    Well if she has done it...then she can do it she doesn't want to .lol

    She will do on her own time but do try putting a rolled towel under her only so she can get her knees under her. I don't know because my daughter did things so fast that I didn't have much time to teach her.

    Good luck

    purely lay a blanket on the floor and encompass him with toys each of the time finally he receives it. My daughter grow to be born the day earlier your son and he or she discovered to roll at 3 months yet i imagine it truly is because she grow to be interior me an more effective 2 weeks which led her to strengthen a touch more effective so she has executed issues very early. do not stress he will do it at the same time as he's waiting! GL!

    she will get there...I kept wondering about when our little guy was going to roll over and then when he finally did he kept getting his little arm stuck under him...so that gave me something else to worry or wonder about...he finally (about a month later) got the hang of it. he loves rolling over now.

    it coud be that your little girl just isn't interested in rolling over. as long as she's happy and doesn't seem to have any major problems I would worry too much about it...you could always just bring it up at your next check-up.

    it isnt essential....maybe she just wont do it. some babys skip milestones and onto the next...have you tried positioning her into a crawl? is there certain things she loves to play with?? my daughter first rolled over and didnt stop trying to get her nappy cream lmao. she was always fascinated with it....crawling was the phone. intice her into moving make it fun. get her to explore her environment:)

    Don't worry!!! My kids all did things differently. At different ages and stages. Like one of the previous posts said, some kids skip certain stages altogether! My now 2 yr old skipped crawling and went straight to walking! Just be patient, do what you can to encourage her, and have fun with your baby!! = )

    Put her on a mat, the ones with the toys hanging on them... It should stimulate her more to use her hands and make her back stronger to roll over. Don't worry though, she'll get it.

    Look, I can't imagine that she will be belly-ridden for the reast of her life. She's going to get up one day and crawl around, and once she does rolling will come naturally.
